15th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup
In celebration of Earth Day, I Love A Clean San Diego held their 15th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup at 113 cleanup sites in San Diego. Approximately 6,200 registered volunteers helped improve the health and beauty of San Diego’s natural environment during the three-hour event, removing more than 150,000 pounds of trash and debris from locations throughout the county. Some notable odd items found in the cleanup included a $90 check, an ATM machine shell, and a raw chicken package. Volunteers also beautified and restored the local environment through painting, planting, and weeding projects.
Several of San Diego’s elected officials visited cleanup sites in their respective districts, including: San Diego City Councilmembers David Alvarez, Barbara Bry, Georgette Gomez, Chris Ward and Lorie Zapf; Assemblymembers Lorena Gonzales and Brian Maienschein; Senator Toni Atkins; and U.S. Congressman Scott Peters. Creek to Bay is one of hundreds of cleanups hosted by ILACSD.
Join ILACSD for upcoming events across the county: the 2nd Annual Zero Waste Fair on June 17 and Toasts & Tacos Summer Social on June 24. See event locations and times at www.ilacsd.org.
