Local Nonprofit Raises Money to Feed Seniors in Need
Experience of a Lifetime
Over 300 people attended Serving Seniors’ 5th Annual Experience of a Lifetime fundraising event at the Del Mar Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe. The theme for this year’s event was “Uncork Your Support,” featuring a wine reception with tastings from premier wineries across California. Attendees also enjoyed locally sourced hors d’oeuvres, live music, a live auction with great prizes, and an exclusive dinner with fine wine pairings created by Del Mar Country Club Executive Chef Jonathan Sudar. The event surpassed its $400,000 goal by raising $478,000, which will provide 191,200 nutritious meals for vulnerable and low income seniors throughout San Diego County.
Serving Seniors is a San Diego-based nonprofit agency dedicated to helping seniors in poverty live healthy and fulfilling lives. Through its collaborative partnerships, Serving Seniors is able to provide nutrition, case management, care coordination, mental health services, life-long learning, advocacy and transitional housing for homeless seniors, and permanent supportive housing. This coordinated wellness model addresses many senior issues in one place, keeping seniors healthy and independent for as long as possible. For seniors living in poverty, they often need to choose between necessary medication and their next meal. Serving Seniors addresses hunger and food insecurity as one of its core programs by providing 2,300 meals a day at 10 congregate dining sites and personally to homebound clients in neighborhoods across the county, equating to roughly 600,000 meals per year.
