Travel and Home Life

family_pierce1The peaceful nature of Cielo in RSF has been a refuge for the Pierce family, but they also value the neighborhood’s social life. “Cielo is a very welcoming community,” they shared, “featuring ‘Sunset Social’ cocktail parties hosted by a different resident each quarter and a dinner club every other month.” Frederick Pierce IV is the founder, president, and CEO of Pierce Education Properties, one of the top 15 owners/operators of student housing in the country. Christine Pierce is retired as CEO of the San Diego County Construction Laborer’s Benefit Fund, COO of the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS), and associate director at Park West Art Galleries. She is active with local charities including The Thursday Club and the Assistance League of Greater San Diego. Frederick was a 2018 finalist for the San Diego Business Journal’s Most Admired CEOs, and named among 50 Influential Leaders in San Diego by the 2017 San Diego Daily Transcript. His San Diego State University (SDSU) philanthropy includes chairing the Fowler College of Business and membership on boards of the Corky McMillin Center for Real Estate and the Aztec Club.

The Pierces have two daughters, Peyton and Riley. Twenty-five-year-old Peyton is the Marketing Manager at BLVD63, premier off-campus SDSU student housing. Peyton earned her BA in theater from SDSU. “She is also a professional actress,” the Pierces said, “and has played the leading role of Annie for several years in the acclaimed play The Evil Dead showing each October for the past several years in downtown San Diego.” Thirteen-year-old Riley just finished seventh grade at R. Roger Rowe School, following her acting and singing passions in the theater and choir programs. She’s appeared in several movies and television shows, including Haunted House II, How I Met Your Mother, The Mindy Project, The Crazy Ones, The Mentalist, and Extant.

Travel and the Aztecs are favorite pastimes for the Pierces. In their 17-plus years together, they’ve seen more than 20 countries (Christine over 40!) with favorite destinations the Caribbean, Italy, Greece, Russia, Australia, and New Zealand. Interesting genealogical notes include the Folsoms on Christine’s side as original developers of Mission Beach, with Fred’s family tracing back to the settlers at Jamestown. “We are directly descended from Roman Emperor Julius Caesar through Charlemagne, William the Conqueror, and King Edward I,” they confirmed. “This makes our daughters distant cousins of the Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov and Prince William and Prince Harry!”
